Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a popular public speaker. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of the Internet environment. With a master's in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to launch an internet series that examined the role of gender in games but was the target of an online campaign to harass her. The attack did be a deterrent, but it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in media narratives.
